MEET LOU DIGIOVINE, PT

Louis F DiGiovine, PT is a NJ licensed Physical Therapist that graduated in 1980 with a BS degree in physical therapy. He quickly gained an interest in the specialty area of manual orthopedic physical therapy. Within the scope of orthopedics, he developed a specific knowledge base in the evaluation and treatment of spinal conditions (Back and Neck), shoulder ailments, as well as, Temporo-Mandibular Dysfunction (TMD) and TMJ. His combined interests and study, including neck, back, shoulder, and TMJ lead him to develop a specific interest and focus on upper quarter syndrome. Louis has also done extensive study over the years in musculoskeletal pain management and related treatments. He has rendered thousands of patient treatment visits over his 44-year career and has a unique perspective of what patients “needs and concerns” are, as well as, the totality of what is needed for patients to fully recover. He is a clinically talented “hands on” manual orthopedic therapist. His experience and extensive training gives him the skills and tools required to provide optimal services to patients that are appropriate and targeted. Lou is concerned that the level of detail and attention paid to direct and individualized patient treatment is often lacking in today’s healthcare environment. As a result, he has dedicated his practice to personalized patient care. At Lou PT, LLC he combines his compassion, vast knowledge base, and direct patient care experience to assist people that suffer from the collection of the signs and symptoms of Upper Quarter Syndrome.

OUR STORY

Louis F DiGiovine, PT has been actively treating patients with TMJ aka Temporal Mandibular Dysfunction (TMD) for approximately 44 years. As a complement to his studies for treatment of cervical pain and postural dysfunction, he began to study more about TMJ/TMD to enable a wider scope of treatments to his patients. He began to realize that he had many of the signs and symptoms of TMJ/TMD himself and coincidently developed a sudden onset of acute TMJ pain. This is when he reluctantly became acquainted with TMJ dysfunction on a personal level and became intimately aware of the pain and suffering that could be associated with TMJ/TMD. Lou sought out a dentist with recognized expertise in the field for his own treatment and became a TMJ patient himself. Over the following year or so he went through a comprehensive treatment plan that included physical therapy, a customized night guard and even orthodontics to correct his bite. He had much personal success with treatment and over the next several years he attended seminars and training courses on the subject matter of TMJ, TMD and Upper Quarter Dysfunction. He continued to develop TMJ as a clinical specialty and has worked very closely with local dentists in the multidisciplinary and comprehensive approach toward management of TMJ/TMD dysfunction. Over the years, Lou has developed a unique combination of skills and knowledge in the areas of cervical pain, shoulder problems, postural dysfunction, TMJ/TMD, headaches, trigger points, ergonomics assessment, manual therapy, pain control and the treatment of complex upper quarter dysfunction. Lou has used his experience and knowledge to design and develop a unique and comprehensive treatment program for Upper Quarter Syndrome (UQS) and to help patients suffering from TMJ/TMD pain and dysfunction. Because he empathetically understands what your “needs and concerns” are, he will work closely with you, your dental specialists and your practitioners to provide the best treatment available.
