This two-way open discussion will help you to learn and understand your overall condition and for Lou to explain what specific treatments are indicated and appropriate to help you feel better.

This is a personalized “one on one” comprehensive Physical Therapy Evaluation which includes the following:

  1. Subjective History – A detailed subjective history of onset, signs, and symptoms, what makes you feel better and what makes you feel worse. Including your relevant medical history, previous treatments, sleep habits and stress indicators.
  2. Ergonomic Assessment of postures, positions, and “things that you do” that are specific to your work, computer use, driving, and sleep habits.
  3. Activities of Daily Living- ADL Assessment – measuring and documenting your relevant functional ADL deficits.
  4. Objective Examination – including Postural Assessment, Range of Motion, Strength, Joint and Spinal Mobility, Flexibility, Soft Tissue Assessment of Myofascial Pain and Trigger Points Referral of the entire upper quarter; including TMJ, head, cervical and shoulder regions.
  5. Assessment and Plan of Care – A thorough review and Assessment will allow us to design a unique and individualized therapy Plan of Care for each patient.
  6. Initial Evaluation Report – a comprehensive typewritten report detailing all of the above findings, as well as an Assessment and the Plan of Care treatment program.

Once the Initial Evaluation and Assessment is completed, Lou will design a very personalized and specific treatment plan for your situation. Although each patient’s case is unique, we find that most patients will require a commitment of 2 to 3 visits per week to get started. Follow up therapeutic treatments may include but not limited to the following:

  1. Manual Therapy – Myofascial Release techniques to release, relax and elongate adaptively shortened tissue.
  2. Manual Therapy – Soft Tissue “Functional Mobilization” techniques to release, relax and elongate adaptively shorten tissue.
  3. Manual Therapy – Joint and Spinal mobilization techniques to mobilize and improve joint stiffness and optimize proper joint mechanics.
  4. Manual Therapy – to release and relax active trigger points to decrease referred pain from muscle tension.
  5. Passive and Active Stretching – to increase flexibility of tight musculature and soft tissue to help balance the musculoskeletal system.
  6. Posture Reeducation Exercises including Neuromuscular Reeducation and Therapeutic Exercise – to improve postural awareness and position to reduce stress and strain.
  7. Physical Therapeutic Modalities to reduce pain and inflammation – including but not limited to cryotherapy, hot packs, ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, vibration and TENS.
  8. Strengthening Exercises to stabilize weak areas and balance muscle strength throughout.
  9. HOME “Lifestyle Management” PROGRAM/Home Exercise Program – A Home Exercise Program designed and instructed by Lou will be provided with pictures to correct help postural faults, stretch tight muscles, alleviate muscle tension, and reduce pain. Your customized home exercise program will help to you avoid improper positions, avoid prolonged static loading that creates stress and strain upon soft tissue and muscle, as well as, promoting activities that are beneficial to the healing process. We believe that a balanced lifestyle can help to prevent future injury and illness while minimizing stress and strain. We will discuss, analyze and manage life style changes that will help you to avoid doing the things that are detrimental and that aggravate your symptoms. We will also make recommendations to replace those unhealthy activities with healthier and more beneficial activities that promote healing and recovery.
  10. ERGONOMIC and ADL COUNSELING Ergonomic Assessment and Lifestyle Management – We will discuss, analyze, and identify improvements that can be made for better ergonomics to reduce stress and strain while performing Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), to instruct proper body mechanics in all ADLs including sleep positions, proper use of pillows, sitting positions, chairs, desks, computer, and screen ergonomics, as well as, proper body mechanics with work related activities.
